Sara "Sally" Ann (Schlick) Colbert

d. April 21, 2015

Sara Schlick Colbert (Sally) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21st.

A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, she was a graduate of the College of St. Catherine’s and Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, MA.  A tireless worker for the betterment of the Carteret County, she served on the board of directors of the Carteret Community Foundation and the Carteret County Domestic Violence Program.  An active member of her church she served as the president of St. Egbert’s Ladies Guild and as a member of the parish board.  Sally was also one of the founding members of the Spirit of Hope, a support group for people with cancer and their caregivers.

With college majors in speech, drama and French, she had a lifelong interest in theater and its benefits for children.  While living in Greensboro, NC, she was one of the founding members Pixie Playhouse for Children, which was established by the Junior League.

In Morehead City her interest in children’s theatre flourished, and she assisted with the development of an arts program for children at risk in Carteret County, funded by grants from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and Progress Energy (now Duke Power).  Sally served many terms as a board member of the Carteret Community Theatre and appeared on the CCT stage in many productions.

People were a main source of enjoyment for Sally. She enjoyed her work as manager of Colbert’s Jewelers in the Morehead Plaza and her membership in the Coterie Social Club of Morehead City where she served as president in the 1980’s.

She is survived by her husband William (Bill) Colbert, daughters Kathleen M. Colbert of Durham, Dr. Elizabeth Colbert and husband Scott Cannon of Raleigh, and Mary Ann Colbert of West Palm Beach, FL, plus two grandchildren Patrick and Lola Cannon also of Raleigh. A visitation will be held Sunday, April 26th, 4-6 pm at Munden’s Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Sally Colbert on Monday, April 27th at St. Egbert’s Catholic Church in Morehead City at 11:00 A. M.

The family wishes to thank Carteret General Hospital vice president Bess Besswick and the nursing staff for the helpful, loving care they provided Sally during her illness.    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Carteret Community Theatre building fund, PO Box 283 Morehead City, NC 28557.
