Sarah Ann Weeks, 71, of Cedar Point, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC, of complications from chemotherapy for Hodgkins disease.
Sarah Ann was born January 3, 1943, in Morehead City, the daughter of J.O. and Hazel Weeks. She grew up in Bogue, NC, and graduated from Swansboro High School in 1961, She graduated from King's Business College in Raleigh, NC, and she then moved to Washington, D.C. She married in 1964 and had two children, Todd and Sonya, and the family lived in Waldorf, Maryland. After her divorce in 1975, she began working for the U.S. Navy Department, and subsequently moved to San Diego, CA. At the time of her retirement in 2003, she was a financial supervisor at the Department of Navy.
She moved back to the area in 2004, and she lived in Cedar Point with her companion, Joe Leibrand, where she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and reading. She was a die hard Washington Redskins Fan.
Survivors include Mr. Leibrand, her two children, Todd Metheny of Albuquerque, NM, and Sonya Lipps of San Diego, CA, two grandsons, Alec and Hayden Metheny of Albuquerque, and a brother, Philip Weeks of Washington, D.C.
The family will hold a memorial service 11:00 am Thursday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
