Sarah F. Shuping, 82, of Morehead City, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Morehead City, NC.
Sarah was born on June 12, 1936 in Winston-Salem as the firstborn to Lina Vuncannon Brown Shuping and Samuel A. Shuping, both of who predeceased Sarah.
Sarah graduated from UNC-G, formerly WCUNC, in 1958, with a four-year degree from the College of Business. Her studies served her extremely well in her career with R.J. Reynolds as a legal secretary to the Corporate Counsel. Upon choosing early retirement, she worked at Womble Carlyle Law Firm before returning to Reynolds in the Employee Benefits Section. Her high school graduation in 1954, was from Boyden High School in her hometown of Salisbury, NC.
At WCUNC, Sarah was elected to serve as a Junior House President, assigned to Coit Dormitory. Through that capacity, she also served on an Advisory Board. An admirable loyalty to the University led Sarah to remain financially committed to UNC-G. Sarah was also a faithful donor to the Salvation Army and Crisis Control groups of Forsyth County.
Sarah grew up in the First United Methodist Church of Salisbury, later belonging to Green Street Methodist in Winston-Salem. In April of 2016, Sarah moved from Meadowbrook, an assisted living facility in Clemmons, to reside at Brookdale Assisted Living Facility (formerly Carolina House) in Morehead City, NC in order to live closer to her sister and brother-in-law.
She is survived by her Shuping sister, Lina Rebecca (Becky) Blankenship; brother-in-law, Alan L. Blankenship, Sr., of Morehead City; along with nieces and nephews in Wisconsin, Virginia and Winston-Salem, NC; as well as many cousins in the two-family groupings of Shuping and Vuncannon.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; all grandparents; as well as half-sisters and half-brothers and their spouses who were an integral part of her growing up years in the combined families.
To follows Sarah’s wishes, no memorial service will be held following cremation. However, the family will receive guests at a visitation time to be scheduled at Vogler Funeral Home in Clemmons at a later date. In a private burial in Salem Cemetery, Winston-Salem, Sarah’s remains will be joined with her parents’ burial location.
The family wishes to thank the local Brookdale organization for its kindness and loving style shown to both Sarah and her family. Sarah originally resided as a dementia resident, eventually being transferred to the Memory Care Unit. Her care has been exceptional valued during her brief struggle with lung cancer. Also, appreciation is extended to Liberty Home Care Services as well as to the Community Hospice organization for the welcome end-of-life care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to UNC-G School of Business at 516 Stirling St, Greensboro, NC 27412.
