Sarah Oliver

Sarah Oliver, 71, of Newport, passed away Sunday, June 10­, 2018 at the University of North Carolina Hospital at Chapel Hill.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Reece’s Chapel Baptist Church in Newport, officiated by Reverend James Chadwick and Reverend George Sledge.

Sarah was born and raised in Georgia. She married her husband 2 weeks before he was sent to Vietnam, his career, with the United States Air Force, took them to Florida, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Colorado and Georgia. Sarah loved children. She ran daycares before becoming a certified teacher and taught kindergarten for multiple schools before retiring from Trinity Presbyterian Academy in 2007. She loved shopping, camping and large crowds. Sarah will be remembered for her generosity, tenderness and unconditional love for others.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Hunter Oliver, of the home; daughters, Angel Oliver of Newport, Christina Costley of Havelock; many adopted children that called her mom; sister, Betty Jean Renfroe of Eastman, GA; brother-in-law, Russell Evans of Cochran, GA; grandchildren, Sloan Lamb, Anthony Lamb, Cheroki Lamb, Sarah Hosford, Andrew Hosford, great-grandchildren, Harmony Lamb, Lillian Malloy; many loving nieces and nephews; and beloved Chihuahua, Ginger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Geneva Williams; sisters, Hazel Evans, Aderine Jowers; and brother-in-law, Delbert Lee Renfroe, Sr.

Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Reece’s Chapel Baptist Church in Newport.
