Sandra Gilgo Scott, 84, of Harkers Island, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Carteret Health Care.
A graveside service to honor Sandra's life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 7th at Vergie Mae Cemetery on Harkers Island, officiated by Pastor Manley Rose Jr.
Born on October 15, 1939, Sandra was the daughter of the late Lionel and Emma Gilgo. She came from a close-knit, loving family of 6 children. In her early years, growing up on Portsmouth Island, there were 6 other children on the Island, 1 was her cousin and the other 5 were her siblings. Sandra held fond memories of her early years on the Island, which was once a bustling seaport with its own hospital. Due to the absence of a school on the Island, the family eventually relocated to the mainland as the children reached school-going age.
Sandra found true love in Lionel Scott, whom she married and shared 57 beautiful years with until his passing in 2015. Interestingly, their families were close friends and Lionel was named after Sandra's father.
Sandra led a life filled with love and devotion to her family. Her greatest joy and fulfillment came from caring for her loved ones. A woman of unwavering faith, she devoted herself to serving the Lord wholeheartedly. She and Lionel were members of Refuge Fellowship Church where they happily shared their gifts and talents in various ministries.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, Lionel "Toot" Scott Jr. and wife Pollyanna of Newport; daughters, Cecilia Noe and companion Jefferey Fleenor of Straits, Tina Lewis-Judy and husband Jeff of Beaufort, and April Taylor and husband Rusty of Harkers Island; sister, Rita Harris of Atlantic; brother, Lionel Gilgo Jr. and wife Patricia of Beaufort; grandchildren, Hope Fulcher, J.J. Fulcher, Jason Scott, Laken Wheatly, Cody Taylor, Chandler Taylor, Crystal Clayton, Matthew Pate, and Samantha Lewis; great-grandchildren, Kristen Fulcher, Nicholas Fulcher, Evan Jones, Brianna Weeks, Gage Wheatly, Adler Wheatly, Michelle Willis, and Cash Taylor; and great-great-grandchildren, Na’Leiah and Ezekiah.
In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lionel Scott Sr.; grandson, Jarrett Scott; son-in-law, Blake Lewis; and siblings, Charles Gilgo, Bertha Hill, and Joseph “Joey” Gilgo.
Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences.
