Sandra (Garner) Arthur

Sandra Garner Arthur, 70, of Newport, formerly of New Bern passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2nd, 2014 at Carolina East Medical Center, New Bern.

Services will be held Sunday, January 5th at 3:30 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church in Morehead City with Reverend Jerry Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.

From her birth in Morehead City on January 6, 1943, to her death on Thursday, Sandra lived a life dedicated to loving and caring for her close family and devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her husband, Glen Arthur, who passed away in 2003, and her mother, Rubie Garner, who passed away in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her father, Vernon P. Garner. Her interests included gardening, reading, and decorating, but she will be most remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor.

Sandra is survived by her daughters, Verna Arthur, of Greenville, NC and Aleeze Arthur of Greenville, NC; her two granddaughters, Jessica Edwards of Greenville, NC and Alexandra Sawyer of Greenville, NC; her brother and best friend, Paul Garner and wife Rosa of Newport; niece Cindy Payne and husband Danny of Newport; nephew Vernon P. Garner III and fiancé Ann of Newport; grand-nephew Ken Cayton and fiancé Cassandra of Newport; and nephew Daniel Payne of Newport; great-grandnephew Carson Cayton, and grand niece Arika Nguyen and husband Van of China.

The family will receive friends and family before the service from 2:30 – 3:30 at First Free Will Baptist Church and other times at 264 Rollingwood Drive, Newport, NC.
