Samuel Anderson McConkey, Jr.

Samuel Anderson McConkey, Jr., reached his eternal resting place on Friday, May 5, 2017, after a lengthy hospitalization for a multitude of health problems.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 8, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Morehead City with Rev. Powell Osteen officiating. A private family interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Sam was born in Richmond, Virginia to Anne Elizabeth and Samuel Anderson McConkey, Sr. He grew up in Tarboro, North Carolina and was raised a “Southern Gentleman”.  He attended The Asheville School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received an undergraduate degree as well as a Juris Doctorate. Sam practiced law in Morehead City for many years.

He leaves his wife, Kim McConkey, of Morehead City; step sons, David Garrison and wife Terri of Morehead City, Doug Garrison and wife Jennifer of Durham; step grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Garrison and Frances Marjorie Garrison of Morehead City and Charles Douglas Garrison of Durham, all of whom he adored.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents and his son Samuel Anderson McConkey, III.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home.
