Samuel J. Gilbert, 90, of Maysville, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at his home.
A celebration of Samuel’s life will be held at a later date.
Samuel was born on May 10, 1931, in Grifton, North Carolina, to the late Joseph and Betty Gilbert. He was a heroic veteran of the Korean War, serving proudly in the United States Air Force.
As an entrepreneur, Samuel was the owner and operator of Hamilton Bikes as well as Sam’s Stationary. He enjoyed his business and the interaction he had with his customers. Samuel also worked at Western Union for nearly 20 years.
Samuel was a faithful Master Mason with the Raritan Valley Lodge 46 F & AM for 68 years. His love of the Lord was the strength of his life and upon moving to North Carolina, Samuel became a member of Centerview Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He will be sadly missed by his family who will remember him as a loving, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy L. Shepard of Maysville; sons, Samuel J. Gilbert Jr. of Middlesex, NJ, Mark W. Gilbert of Woodbridge, VA, and Jack K. Gilbert of South Bound Brook, NJ; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and furry dog, Fern.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise Gilbert, they shared 56 happy years together.
