Ruthanne Riffle, 87, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and New Bern, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at her home in New Bern and is held in loving remembrance.
Her memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock, NC, officiated by Pastor George Feldman of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Havelock, NC. Inurnment will take place at a later time at Jacob’s History Cemetery at Jacobs Lutheran Church in Masontown, Pennsylvania.
She used her 3 foreign languages in the Government Foreign Service, Big Steel Corps, South America, and the Caribbean as a Stewardess with Pan American Airways. Ruthanne re-met her childhood sweetheart, U.S. Marine Corps Aviator, James C. Riffle. He flew in the big 3 wars and with the well known Black Sheep Squadron 214.
Her endeavors include a fellowship to the University of Mexico, studied some in Paris, France, and Russian at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. She contributed to IAT, Institute of Aeronautical Technology, Havelock Campus, where she placed her Jim’s memorial; shared her Marine Corps dedication with the Wounded Warriors, Military Affairs Committee (MAC), 10 years with the Havelock Appearance Commission, New Bern Historical Society, Navy League, Military Officers Association (MOAA), Sudan Shriners, Secretary to Havelock Senior’s Associate, Civitan, and National Translator’s Organization.
Mrs. Riffle maintained an ocean front beach home for family and is survived by her special daughter, Constance Casey-Dale; very special grandson, Collin C. Dale; fiancé, Dominic Fico; nephews, Earl Riffle, Ron and Bunny Riffle, Don and Beth Riffle; other family members, Jim and Linda Riffle, Sam and Nancy Riffle, and Robert Lee Riffle.
She was preceded by her husband, Lt. Col. James C. Riffle; parents, Vincent and Margaret Mitsch; and son-in-law, H. Chris Dale.
Family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock, NC
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations or any remembrances may be made to St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church at 140 US Highway 70, Havelock, NC 28532.
