Rupert Gordon Daniels, 92, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Cedar Island, passed away on Sunday, April 21. 2019.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Church on Cedar Island, with Rev. Jerry Box officiating.
Rupert was born on July 25, 1926, the sixth child to the late, John M. and Janet A. Daniels.
He graduated from Atlantic High School on June 1, 1945 and was working for the FBI on June 4, 1945. In September 1950 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. During the ninth week of basic training he was assigned to the Pentagon. After training in California, he was sent to Ankara, Turkey for four years, and traveled with the highest ranking Army officers on many occasions. After Turkey, he came back to the States and returned to work for the FBI, where he retired after 36 years of service.
Rupert joined the Masonic Lodge and served as the Master of Ceremonies, Worship Master, Eastern Star as Worthy Patron five times, and he received the Grand Representatives appointments five times from the Eastern Star, Noble Grand and Circle Club Master. He was also in the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. He was congratulated by the Director of the FBI, Mr. Hoover, for becoming a Master Mason. Rupert went on to become an officer in Mr. Hoover’s Lodge.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Janet A. Daniels, sisters, Kathleen D. Styron, Ulva D. Styron, Katie D. Goodwin, Blanch Daniels, Bob D. Salter, and Carolyn Rice.
The family will receive friends 1:00 – 2:00 pm prior to the service at Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedar Island Community Cemetery Fund or Pilgrims Rest Free Will Baptist Church, both can be mailed in care of Ellen Goodwin, 2431 Cedar Island Rd, Cedar Island, NC 28520.
