Roy Hilton Willis, 79, of Stacy passed away September 6 on the Davis Impoundment after a day of decoy carving at the Guild with friends. He was one of the original members of the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild and instrumental in the vision of the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center. He attended Stacy Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Ina Willis, two sisters Myrtle Lee Lawrence and husband H. B. of Otway and Lura Jean Robinson and husband Dan of Ocracoke, sisters-in-law Judy Willis of Clayton, Pat Russell and Iris Coats and husband Don of South River, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eldon and Lina Willis of Stacy and brother, Carlton Hayes Willis of Clayton.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Stacy Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Ernest Laxton officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p m at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum & Heritage Center at Harkers Island. Interment will be in the Stacy Community Cemetery.
