Rose Burdick, 91, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Carolina East Medical Center.
Rose will be laid to rest privately at Arlington National Cemetery.
Rose was born on June 2, 1932, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late Harry and Stella Peterson. She served her country with honor as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. Her commitment was a testament to her strong character and dedication to protecting her nation.
Outside of her military service, Rose had a deep love for many things in life. She had a passion for cooking, and her meals were made with love. You could also find Rose spending countless hours planting flowers in her garden. Rose had a special place in her heart for her beloved cats. They brought her much joy.
Rose was a member of her home church, Annunciation Catholic Church. Rose was an active member of the Washington State Elks Lodge in Tacoma, Washington, a den leader with the Cub Scouts in Stonington, Connecticut, and in the 60’s was a leader of the Blue Birds. In her downtime, Rose loved listening to John Denver and the one and only Cher.
May Rose’s soul rest in peace, and may her legacy of service, love, and passion continue to inspire us all.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her sons, Vernon Burdick (Rachel) of New Bern, and Mark Burdick (Gail) of New Bern; 23 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Burdick; daughter, Susan LaTorre; and sons, Robert LaTorre and Jesse LaTorre.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA, P.O. Box 96929, Washington, D.C. 20090.
