Roscoe “Rocky” Merritte Gentry, Jr, 54, of Morehead City, passed away July 2, 2017.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, July 7, 2017, at One Harbor Church in Morehead City. The family will receive friends at their home following the service.
He was born in Roxboro on July 13, 1962, to Roscoe Merritte Gentry and Patsy Ashley Vereen. Rocky will be remembered for his love of family, sports, and fishing. He was a star football player at Eastern Alamance High School and moved to Morehead City his senior year. Rocky met his love, Hope Oglesby, shortly after moving to Morehead and they were married in April of 1986.
Rocky loved fishing, gardening, and watching sports. On a beautiful day, you could find him with Hope and the kids taking the boat to Cape Lookout. Rocky and Hope were happily married for 31 years and you would always find them together. He cherished playing with his granddaughter, Elizabeth. Rocky had a big heart, a big smile, and was loved by all who met him.
Rocky is survived by his wife, Hope Oglesby Gentry; daughter, Krista Gentry Boyette and husband, Daniel; son, Gunnar Gentry; granddaughter, Elizabeth Boyette; mother, Patsy Vereen; brother, Ricky Gentry; sister, Rhonda Gentry.
He was preceded in death by his father Roscoe Merritte Gentry, Sr.
