Robert "Spence" Garner, 73, of Mill Creek, died Sunday, February 13, 2011 at his home.
A Celebration of his Life was held 6:30 to 8:30 pm Tuesday at Reece's Chapel with Rev. James Chadwick officiating.
Spence served in the US Navy before coming back home to continue his life as a mechanic, commercial fisherman, net builder/repairman, longshoreman, stevador, and wood boat repairman/carpenter. Spence was the definition of the "the jack of all trades".
Spence was an avid hunter and fisherman all of his life. He always enjoyed planting and having a garden. He continued his gardening touch through the fall of 2010 where he canned multiple jars of home grown peppers for pepper vinegar. He enjoyed cooking, especially cakes, and sharing all of his food to anyone who was interested. He enjoyed helping others in his community and adjacent communitities with anything from working on their cars, boats, or tractors to farming. Spence enjoyed telling stories about his younger years and almost all had a lesson that was learned.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie T. Garner; mother, Willie Mae Adams; sister, McColla Bohmuller; and brothers, Gordon Garner, Jack Garner, and Joe Garner.
