Robert K. Garner

July 11, 1938 — October 31, 2021

Newport

CW4 Robert K. Garner, U.S. Army Retired, 83, of Newport, passed into the hands of our Lord on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Morehead City.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 5th at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, officiated by Rev. Jim Buchholz. Interment will follow at Amariah Garner Cemetery in Newport.  The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, November 4th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.

Robert was born on July 11, 1938, in Newport, North Carolina, to the late Ruby G. Garner and Rudolph Linwood Garner Sr. He retired after 33 years of honorable service in the United States Army. He was employed by Cherry Point for 32 years and owned Coastal Enterprises, a refrigeration and air conditioning company. He was a true patriot who was highly admired by his crew. His strong work ethic and unfailing dedication, while admirable, were only a small part of what made him a great man.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping in his RV with his wife, Maureen. He also loved tending his garden, bird watching, fishing, hunting, and was a talented sharpshooter. Robert was an accomplished skipper who could run anything with a prop.

More than anything, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His contagious laughter, as well as his unending kindness and generosity were the keystones of his life and will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Robert is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maureen Boyd Garner of the home; son, Patrick Garner and wife Tabitha of Newport; sisters, Lena Guthrie of Harkers Island and Melanie Guthrie of Ocean Isle; and grandchildren, Alex Garner Yoshimoto, Kelly Joyce, and Erin Davis, all of Newport.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Audrey Garner Davis; granddaughter, Hailey Garner; sisters, Jackie Whitaker, Joan Kuciniski, Tommie Newby, Louis Cannon; and brother, Nolan Garner.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Annunciation Catholic Church at 246 E. Main St., Havelock, NC 28532.
