Robert "Bob" Ensminger, Sr.

Harkers Island

Robert “Bob” Ensminger, Sr., 88, of Harkers Island, passed away Thursday, March 28­, 2019, at Carteret Health Care, with his son Bobby by his side.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Harkers Island, officiated by Bishop B.L. Marcom. Interment, with military honors and Masonic Rites, will follow at Vergie Mae on Harkers Island.

Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. At the age of 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served 4 years. Upon discharge, he joined the Naval Reserves for 6 years, before transferring to the National Guard for 5 years and later to the Army Reserves for 15 years. During this time, he was also employed at NARF, Cherry Point, totaling over 30 years.

He was a faithful member or the Harkers Island Rescue Squad as well as the Crissie Wright #741 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge in Smyrna for many years. He was also involved with the Shriners in New Bern.

He is survived by his sons, Robert “Bobby” Leo Ensminger, Jr. and wife Judy of Harkers Island, Robert “Butch” Jack Ensminger of New Bern; brother, Jack D. Ensminger of Spokane, WA;  grandchildren, Bobbi Lynn Perry and husband Scott of Beaufort, Landon Ensminger and wife Ashley of Beaufort, Micki Ensminger of Cove City and April Ensminger of New Bern; great-grandchildren, Haley, Camdyn, Tyler, Karlyn, Layla, Amelia, Madelyn, Cierra and Austin; family pets, Charley Girl and Marley Boy, that he loved dearly; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Anna “Alene” Dixon Ensminger; parents, Clay and Rita Ensminger; brother, Clay Eugene Ensminger; and sisters, Fran Sheldon and Ila Lemon.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Harkers Island.
