Robert “Bob” Linford Wootten, 86, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Pruitt Health - Neuse.
A memorial service to honor Bob’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 30th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Havelock, officiated by Rev. Jim Daub.
Born on April 30, 1938, in Laurel, Delaware, Bob was the son of the late Linford and Lillian Wootten. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy, a commitment that demonstrated his dedication and service to others.
Bob graduated from Duke University in 1960 with a bachelor's degree and enjoyed a fulfilling career as a civil engineer with DuPont, eventually becoming an environmental remediation consultant in Delaware.
An avid golfer, Bob showcased his passion for the sport both on the green and through his yearly trips to the Masters, which he cherished until health restrictions made it difficult for him to attend. In addition to golfing, he enjoyed fishing and playing cards with friends.
Bob's character was marked by his kindness and selflessness, impacting the lives of many who had the honor of knowing him. He was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities, including elder and past president of the church council, reflecting his commitment to his faith and community.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Florence Wootten of the home; son, James Christopher Wootten and wife Chris Moncaleri Wootten of Millsboro, DE and their children, Luke Wootten of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Connor Wootten, Sydney Lyn Wootten, and Remi Wootten of the home; daughter-in-law, Gail Oliver Wootten of Middletown, DE; step-daughter, Laura Lockwood Little and husband David Little of Temiscaming, Quebec, Canada, and their children, Reginal Little, Lockwood Little, and Theodore Little; and his sister, Jeanne Allen of Selbyville, DE.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Hearth Association or the American Cancer Society.
