Newport

Robert Joseph Wichtl, 68, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away at his home on Monday, July 8, 2024.

A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 13th at the Newport Moose Lodge.

Robert was born on August 6, 1955, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to the late Richard and Jeanette Wichtl. Growing up as the son of a Marine, Robert had a strong sense of resilience and adaptability as the family moved frequently. When Robert was 14, the family settled in Carteret County where he remained.

Gifted with a natural talent for electronics, Robert pursued various roles over his lifetime, including repairing televisions. His dedication and expertise eventually led him to a fulfilling career as an Electronics Tech with the State of North Carolina before his well-deserved retirement.

Even in retirement, he kept himself busy by assisting his friends Mack and Baxter at the Car Wash. His passion for fixing automobiles and breathing new life into them was another of his amazing talents.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his twin sons, Christopher Wichtl of Garner, NC and David Wichtl of Newport, NC; sister, Barbara Russell (Sam) of Bogue, NC and Lori Clark (John) of Pamlico County; brother, Victor Wichtl (Alice) of Newport, NC; and grandsons, Harrison Wichtl and Hudson Wichtl, both of Garner, NC.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kimberly Bell Wichtl in 2016.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Take A Kid Fishing Foundation, P.O. Box 1191, Morehead City, NC 28557.

Family and friends are welcome to submit online condolences at www.mundenfuneralhome.net.
