Robert Brandt Swindell, Sr., 71, of Morehead City and Greensboro, died Tuesday, January 3, at his home in Morehead City after a very courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born in Allwood, NJ, but grew up in Greensboro, NC. He graduated from Woodberry Forest in 1958 and received his BA degree from Guilford College in Greensboro. His career led him into many areas of data processing and financial management. His proudest accomplishment was beginning and operating a successful model and talent agency with his wife Anne for 16 years.
He and Anne bought a summer home in Brandywine Bay in Morehead City over 16 years ago and retired there almost 3 years ago. Bob loved clamming and playing in the sound with his grandchildren. He was very active in the community and soon became known as "The Mayor" of Oak Bluff. He never met a stranger and made many friends easily. His optimistic outlook on life was contagious and admired, especially during his struggle through the past few months.
He is survived by his wife Anne Ray Swindell of the home; five children, Robert Brandt Swindell, Jr. of Raleigh, Sara Swindell Himmelrich and husband Bob of Greensboro, Allison Swindell Carter and husband Travis of High Point, Emily Little Bodenheimer and husband David of Winston-Salem, and Katherine Little McBride and husband Chris of Browns Summit, NC; seven grandchildren, Sam Eisenberg of Winston-Salem, Mollie Cannon Himmelrich of Greensboro, Leighton Carter of High Point, Lilly Eisenberg of Winston-Salem, Holt Himmelrich of Greensboro, Lawson Carter of High Point, and Jack Carter of High Point. He is also survived by a sister Priscilla Swindell of Raleigh, niece Robin Dills and husband Steve of Raleigh, and niece Courtney Thompson and husband Jeremy of Bristow, VA.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 6 on the bluff overlooking the sound in Brandywine (sound side) with Dan Wise officiating, with a second service to be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 8 at Forbis and Dick Funeral Service, Elm Street chapel, Greensboro. Family will greet friends following the services.
The family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made to the RAAB Cancer Clinic, 302 Medical Park, Morehead City, NC 28557. Dr. James Loynes and the entire staff of the clinic truly deserve the highest accolades for their care services and their compassion toward their patients.
