Robert Charles Stewart

Robert Charles Stewart, 66, of Broad Creek, NC went to rejoice in the presence of the Lord on May 31, 2018.

Celebration of Life services will be at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the White Oak Church of God, officiated by Reverend Richard Franklin.

Robert was born May 1, 1952 to John R. Stewart, Jr. and Irene Register Stewart in Tifton, GA.  He was fortunate to travel the world and live in many places with his father, a 3-war veteran of the United States Marine Corps.  With the passing of his mother in Hawaii, Robert moved with his father to his final duty station at Cherry Point, NC.  His father later remarried Velma Adams Stewart of Broad Creek, NC.  Robert graduated from West Carteret High School in 1970 and later attended East Carolina University and Lee University, before returning to eastern North Carolina.  In 1973, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Cannon Stewart.

Robert was a diehard sports fan, both playing and coaching several sports throughout Carteret County and the surrounding area.  He coached the White Oak Christian Academy Warriors boys and girls basketball teams from 1979 to 1982 and 1988 to 2000.  During this time, he mounted over 500 wins and many conference championships, including the 1994-95 boys NCCAC State Championship.  Robert later became the youth pastor at White Oak Church of God and led many souls to the Lord.  His leadership and passion to help young people was something always felt in his presence.  In 2014, Robert retired after 40 years of service with the Industrial Waste Water Treatment Plant on USMC Air Station at Cherry Point.

Robert dearly loved his family and friends, forming special bonds with everyone whom he had contact.  His father John, mother Irene, and stepmother Velma preceded him in death.  He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Stewart of Broad Creek; his son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Rachel Stewart, of Cape Carteret; his daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Nathan Simmons of Broad Creek; his grandson and granddaughter-in-law Tristan and Alexus Stewart of Fort Campbell, KY; his grandson Jordan Stewart of Raleigh; his granddaughters Kailynn and Bailey Simmons; his brother and sister-in-law, John R. Stewart, III and Becky Stewart of Broad Creek; his brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Gina Clark, Jr. of Broad Creek; his sister and brother-in-law Donna Kay and Charles Mizelle of Broad Creek; his sisters Elaine Underwood of Broad Creek and Sherry Ann Guthrie of Bogue; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the White Oak Church of God.
