Robert Wayne Mitchell

Robert “Bob” Wayne Mitchell, 74, of Havelock, went home to be with the Lord on January 3, 2019.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Rev, Mitchell Parker. Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Bob honorably and proudly served 27 years in the United States Marine Corps in which he served one tour in Vietnam, two tours in Japan as well as serving in Cuba, Panama and the Dominican Republic before he retired at the highest enlisted rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant.

Bob attended Holly Springs Baptist Church where he was an assistant teacher of the Lighthouse Class.

Bob left behind his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley O’Daniel Mitchell of Havelock; daughter, Tabitha Mitchell Dildy and husband Eddie of Newport; son, Tracy Duane Mitchell of New Bern; four grandchildren, Katie Schafer of Batavia, NY, Amber Mitchell of Havelock, Sarah Dildy of Newport, and Nathan Mitchell of Havelock; and six great-grandchildren, Abbi, Sophia, Riley, Izaiah, Joseph, and Aubree.

The family will accept visitors from 6 p.m. till 8p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Holly Springs Baptist Church in Newport.
