Robert Clement LeClair, 89, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
A memorial service to honor Robert’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 15th at Munden Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Patrick Whaley. Robert will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
Robert was born on March 28, 1935, in Burlington, Vermont, to the late Felix and Yvonne LeClair. Growing up in a large family of 7 siblings, their family was deeply rooted in the Catholic faith.
Robert embraced and lived life to the fullest. His greatest pleasures revolved around his family, especially time spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed leisurely walks, particularly along the beach, and took delight in indulging his sweet tooth and savoring a well-cooked steak. Bowling was another of his pastimes, enjoying both the game itself and the companionship of his friends.
Having served as a decorated U.S. Marine Veteran, Robert dedicated 23 years of his life to the military before retiring. His unwavering commitment to his country was evident throughout his service, embodying the values of patriotism and loyalty.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughters, Theresa LeClair Ipock and husband Michael Jr. of Newport and Patricia LeClair Tali and husband George of Morehead City; brother, Maurice LeClair and wife Dina of New Hampshire; 4 grandchildren, Heather Davis, James Christopher Davis, Shawn Davis and Nicholas Leclair; and 2 great-grandchildren, Joslyn Mills and Dylan Mills
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, the love of his life, Joyce Marie LeClair who passed away in 2008; son, Robert Michael LeClair Jr.; and siblings, Therese LeClair, John LeClair, Jim LeClair, George LeClair, Armand LeClair, and Roland LeClair.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Carteret County Humane Society.
