Robert Nelson Geiges

Robert Nelson Geiges, 56, of Newport, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016 at Carteret Health Care

His memorial service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Munden Funeral Home with Rev. Gene McLendon officiating

Robert was born to the late Elmer B. Geiges of Heidelberg Germany and Betty Jean Geiges of Newport. He was born in Fort Stewart, GA. At the age of 6 months old he and the family moved to Carteret County where they settled at Ho-Ho Village in Newport. Robert was a member of the 1978 graduating class of West Carteret High and would go on to attend Campbell University for two years. In 1984, at Carteret Lanes, Robert would meet his best friend and love of his life, Betty. Robert was a serious fan of the Tar Heels as well as local sports. He served as statistician for West Carteret from 1987 to 1991 and 1995 to 1998. In 1998 he left for Croatan High and would perform the same task until his passing. He retired from Marine Fisheries in 2011 after a 20 year career. He also worked for EIMM flip flops since 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Fulcher Geiges of the home; son, Jason Barbour of Wilmington; sister, Susan Lynn Geiges of Newport; grandchildren, Ryan Pritchett, Cameron Pritchett, Caden Pritchett, Gabriel Pritchett, Christian Pritchett, Courtney Grant; and Nephews Benjamin Hill and Patrick Hill.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Betty Geiges; daughter, Mary Courtney West; sister, Diane Geiges Hill Nance; and grandparents Col. Edward and Winnie Nelson.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
