Robert Thompson Garner

Robert T. Garner, 79, of Beaufort, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. David Bruce officiating.

Robert was a deacon of the church, a member of Calvary Baptist Church, R.A. teacher, and choir member. He retired from the State Port after 35 years of employment. He also was the mate on the boat that caught the first blue marlin in Carteret County, during the Fabulous Fishing Club tournament, now known as the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.

He is survived by his wife Dawn Garner of the home; two daughters Debbie Brooks and husband Lib of Harkers Island, and Sheri Matusko of Beaufort; one brother Jerry Lee Garner of St. Paul, NC; three grandchildren Christopher Michael Brooks and wife Farrah of Clayton, Brandon Paul Garner and wife Jessica of Beaufort, and Michael Shane Matusko of Beaufort: and six great grandchildren Krista Brooks, Ethan Brooks, Hayleyana, Elizabeth,  and Adrianah Garner, and Raven Matusko.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert  L. Garner, mother Lillie H. Garner, and a sister Bobbie Thomasson.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
