Robert Lawrence Fay

Robert “Bob” Lawrence Fay, 72, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Carteret Health Care in Morehead City.

A memorial graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2019, in Stephen, Minnesota.  The service will be officiated by Pastor Mike Schendel, with military honors provided by Star of the North Marine Corps League.

Bob was born on November 16, 1946, in Warren, Minnesota to Lawrence and Florence (Anderson) Fay.  He was raised in Stephen, Minnesota and graduated from Stephen High School in 1964. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War and remained a devoted Marine all his life.  Among his many awards were three good conduct medals and a Vietnam Service Medal. He was very proud of his contributions in technical and operations management and retired honorably as a Master Sergeant with over 20 years of service.

After retirement from the Marine Corps, he took a position at Quantico Marine Corps Base.  Bob had a passion for antique collecting, speed reading and staying up to date with his beloved Minnesota family.

Bob married Dorothy Byrd Mooney on February 14, 1993 and they resided in Newport, NC.

Bob is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Lynette Fay of Stephen, MN; half-sister, Helen Schaub of Minneapolis; special friend, Tina Whaley of Morehead City, NC and numerous half-nieces and half-nephews.  He was very close to his four Stephen nieces; Janelle Saiger and significant other Tim Slough of Bemidji, MN, Jackie Schluchter and husband Scott of Fargo, ND, Joetta McLean and husband Kevin of Little Falls, MN and Janeen Kleinwachter and husband Brian of Middle River, MN; six grand-nephews, Bryce, Blake, Broeden, Grant, Brekken and Gavin; six grand-nieces, Taylor, Lauren, Brooklyn, Olivia, Ayla and Brielle; and numerous half-nieces and half-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Florence Fay; and his wife, Dorothy Fay on December 28, 2017; half-sister, Jean Vaux; half-brother, William "Bud" Fay; and half-niece, Barbara Fay.
