Robert Dwight Emerson Jr.

Robert Dwight Emerson Jr., 94, of Havelock, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Carolina East Medical Center.

His memorial service, with military honors and Masonic Rites, will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2023, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Havelock.

Robert was born on June 16, 1928, in San Mateo, California, to the late Robert and Elizabeth Emerson. He spent a lot of his childhood growing up in New York City. Later, he joined the Marine Corps and spent 30 plus years, retiring as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. Robert was a dedicated veteran, serving in the Vietnam war and the Korean conflict. He was transferred to Cherry Point in 1964 and never left.

Robert was involved in many organizations, he was a member of the local Masonic Lodge, TREA, Civitan’s Club, and the American Legion. Robert was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Havelock. He loved spending time on his hobbies, which included woodworking, radio-controlled model airplanes, and he was something of a civil war buff.

Those left to treasure his memory are his daughter, Patricia Wilson of Havelock; sons, Robert Emerson (Lola) of Havelock, Michael Emerson (Rebecca) of Havelock; grandchildren, Reine Lewis (William) of Havelock, Robert Emerson (fiancée Crystal and her son Miguel Reyes) of New Bern, Clarissa French of Havelock, Benjamin Emerson of Huntsville, Texas, Brycie Dickerson of Huntsville, Texas; great-grandchildren, Marina Lewis, Penelope Lewis, Gabriel French, Riley Emerson, Roxanna Dickerson, Aubree Dickerson, and Jace Dickerson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Helen Emerson.
