Robert “Bobby” Carter, 82, of Peletier, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
Bobby was born on November 8, 1941, in Surry County, NC, to the late Archie and Ethel Carter. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, demonstrating loyalty to his country. After completing his military service, Bobby pursued his passion for welding by attending Trade School. His remarkable skill allowed him to establish a Body Shop in Winston-Salem, where he dedicated himself to restoring vehicles with precision and passion. Bobby had a natural ability to fix anything, his handyman skills meant that he was willing to tackle any challenge always did so with determination and ease.
An avid outdoorsman, Bobby found joy in hunting and fishing, spending countless hours in nature. His family fondly described him as a "night owl," often teasing that he was practically nocturnal.
Later in life, after moving to the coast, Bobby embraced his final career in the commercial fishing business. Being self-employed and on the water was a perfect fit for him because it complemented his adventurous spirit and deep connection to the outdoors.
Above all, Bobby shared a beautiful love story with his wife, Betty. Their marriage, which spanned a remarkable 64 years, was a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Glenda Carter of Peletier; sister, Judy Shelton of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Clay Boyette of Hubert, NC, Crystal Addair (Harley) of Kernersville, NC, Gerry Cunningham (Bradley) of Stella, NC, and Carrie Hunt (Jason) of Peletier; and great-grandchildren, Leo Lucht, Carleigh Addair, Hunter Cunningham, Avery Cunningham, Brantley Cunningham, Payton Hunt and Rylee Hunt.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jo Wood Carter who passed away in March of this year; daughter, Donna Boyette; son, Danny Carter; and sisters, Dellaphine Key and Hilda Carter.
