Richard Guthrie "Buddy" Willis, Sr.

March 19, 1926 — August 24, 2014

Richard Guthrie ("Buddy") Willis, Sr., 88, of Morehead City, NC went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Sunday, August 24, 2014.

A graveside service with masonic rites will be held 12:00 noon on Wednesday at Bayview Cemetery with Dr. Mance Cason officiating.

Buddy served his country as an aviation medic in the Navy during WWII and later as a patrolman in both the Kentucky and North Carolina State Highway Patrols. He also worked at the North Carolina State Ports Authority in Morehead City for 22 years, retiring as Chief of Port Security in 1991.

Buddy is survived by his son, Richard Guthrie Willis, Jr. and wife of Americus, GA; and daughter, Melinda Egan Ridgeway and husband of Morehead City; four grandchildren, Richard Guthrie Willis, III, Sally Jo Willis Sheets, Stephanie Ann Willis Colbert, and Michael Alan Ridgeway and families. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Lina Mae Buck Willis.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home.

The family would especially like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice of Carteret County and Dave Hendeson, PA, and the staff and owners of Medical Park Pharmacy, for their kindness, prayers and care.

It is encouraged that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, NC ( www.mhc-oxford.org) in memory of Buddy's 60 years of service to the Masonic Order and as a member of Ocean Lodge #405 in Morehead City.
