Richard Weaver, of Medford, NJ, lost a valiant struggle with cancer on October 2, 2016. He had been in and out of hospitals during the past 4 years.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Nelson Bay Cemetery.

Richard was born at Fort Ord, CA. The first child of Cdr. Roy Babbitt Weaver, USN (now deceased) and Alice Marie Taylor Weaver. Like many service families they moved several times with stops in Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.

He graduated high school in the coastal town of Scituate, MA where he spent his summers "mossing" (gathering Irish moss from the rocks in a rowboat with a long rake). He attended college at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and graduated with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. After college he worked in Boston for Stone and Webster Engineering Corp. in their nuclear program. During the 1980's, he worked in St. Lucia, West Indies, with Winlink Airlines and later across the globe supervising construction projects in Guam. He also lived in Olympia, WA, where he worked building a nuclear plant. There he met the love of his life, Celeste Atkins.

Later, he lived in San Jose, CA and worked on several projects including the San Jose Convention Center. Subsequently, he and Celeste moved to Southeastern, PA where he began working in Environmental Engineering. In 1998, he moved to Medford, N.J. where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Among his many interests were travel, photography, and he was a huge fan of science fiction and fantasy books and movies. He was also a true audiophile with an incredibly extensive CD collection. He enjoyed sports including golf, tennis and ice hockey, and was an experienced sailor who took part in sailing races on the Puget Sound. His formative years in Massachusetts cemented his love of the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics which he maintained throughout his life.

He is survived by his partner in life, Celeste Atkins; his mother, Alice M. Weaver; and three brothers, Ronald Francis Weaver, Randall Babbitt Weaver and Roger Taylor Weaver, all of Medford, N.J.
