Richard Michael "Pops" Powers, 70, of Williston, NC, died suddenly as a result of an automobile accident on Thursday, February 10, 2011.
Services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday at First Baptist Church in Morehead City with Rev. Doug Stewart and Rev. Wayne Best officiating. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Rich was the founder of First Union Brokerage Services in Charlotte, NC, where he was a financial advisor for the major part of his career. After retiring in 2000, he and Donna enjoyed traveling and entertaining their friends. An avid fisherman, he reveled in cooking and sharing his catch with family and friends.
Rich was very special to his family and brought such joy to their lives. He was always there to teach them, to make a warm drink, or to talk about what was going on in their lives. He was especially fond of spending time with his grandchildren and was passionate about teaching them everything life had to offer.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Reel Powers of the home; five children; daughters, Judy Powers, Lisa Rose and husband, Craig of Beaufort, NC, Michelle Powers of Texarkana, AR, Courtney Verska and husband, Zach of Chapel Hill, NC; son, B. Chas Parisher and wife, Jill of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren, Jennifer McCauley, Jesse Rose, Jaxson and Isabella Verska; three great-grandchildren, Jullianna, Robbie, and Alexander McCauley; brother, Lorren "Jack" Jackson and wife, Louise of Columbia, SC; father, Charles Czarnowski of Snug Harbor, NC; mother-in-law, Dorothy Nett; sister-in-laws, Ann Jackson and husband, Allan, Hilda Everett and husband Louie; brother-in-laws, Kincy Reel and wife, Jo Ellen, all of Ayden, NC, and Tommy Reel and wife, Janie of Greenville, NC.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Giannattasio Bergevin and his adoptive father, Marvin Powers.
The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Saturday at Munden Funeral Home.
