SSG, Richard “Dick” Arlin Griffin, US Army Retired, 92, of Newport, North Carolina, formerly of Montana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Sovah Health in Danville, Virginia.

A celebration of Dick’s life, with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 26th at Munden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bayview Cemetery.

Born on July 16, 1932, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Jesse and Belma Griffin, Dick led a remarkable life dedicated to service. He was a decorated combat veteran who honorably served 9 years with the United States Coast Guard before joining the United States Army, where he completed 11 years of dedicated service. During his time in the Army, Dick was deployed twice to Vietnam, earning 3 Bronze Stars and 3 Purple Hearts for his tremendous valor.

Before returning to Carteret County, Dick spent 30 years in Montana, where his generosity and kindness were evident in all aspects of his life. Dick loved the Lord and was a devoted member of his church, where he faithfully served in numerous capacities.

He will be lovingly remembered as a devoted husband to his wife of 62 years, June, a supportive brother to his 8 siblings, and a wonderful uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his siblings, Jessie Ruth Moseley of Morehead City, NC, Bill Griffin (Robin) of Eatonville, WA, and Joe Griffin of Newport, NC; several loving nieces and nephews; and his feline friends, Rambler, Charlie, Susie, Lady, and Elmer.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, June Griffin, and siblings, Katherine Griffin Hall, Carl Garner, Roy Griffin, Robert Griffin, and Douglas Griffin.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, at P.O. Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.
