Norman Shepherd (Jack) Bell, Sr. of Tucson, Arizona, 90, passed away April 13 in Montgomery, Alabama.
He was born in Newport, N.C. to Nelson and Lona Bell on June 11, 1923. and married Lena Rivers Leonard on May 31, 1945. He was a pastor for 60 years and started 31 new churches, 28 of them in northern New York state.
He was predeceased by one brother and seven sisters, his wife of 56 years, Lena Leonard Bell, his wife of 12 years, Carrie Burns Bell, and his son, Harry Leonard Bell.
He is survived by his sister, Meta Peters of Raleigh, North Carolina; a son, Col. Norman S. Bell, Jr, of Montgomery, Alabama; a daughter, Trisha Bell Blackwell, of St. Cloud, Florida, 10 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind three stepchildren, Pam Martinie, Twyla Damarin, Carvin Bryant, and their children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Adirondack Baptist Association for the Norman S. Bell Memorial Fund, and mailed to Trisha Bell Blackwell at 400 Chancellor Court, St. Cloud, Florida 34769.
Funeral services are Thursday, April 17, 11:00 am at Newport Baptist Church preceded by a viewing for friends and family at 10:00 am. Final resting place will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Newport, North Carolina.
