Rev. Neil I. Brohm, 90, of Morehead City, passed peacefully at home on November 29, 2018.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Open Door Baptist Church on Route 24, in Morehead City.
He was born in 1928, at the Orange Memorial Hospital in East Orange, NJ, son of Frank Cornelius and Elsie Brohm. He is survived by his wife, Mabel, of 70 years. Reverend Brohm pastored several churches through the years. His first pastorate was at the Friendship Baptist Church in Malone, Florida, followed by a pastorate at a Baptist Church in Milton, Florida. Rev. Brohm then worked at the 1964 World's Fair at the Moody Bible Institute Pavilion before pastoring the Vroom Street Evangelical Free Church in Jersey City, NJ. While pastoring in Jersey City, he also served as Chaplain for both the Jersey City Fire and Jersey City Police departments. Then, after completing a three-year position as a home missionary in Honolulu, Hawaii, he served as pastor of the Wauconda Evangelical Free Church in Illinois. Rev. Brohm continued his ministry in Grand Haven, Michigan at a Plymouth Brethren Chapel before retiring to Morehead City, NC.
Rev. Brohm received a bachelor’s degree from the Baptist Bible Institute, a master’s degree and Doctorate of Ministry Degree from the Luther Rice Seminary. Dr. Brohm also had a radio ministry in the Morehead City area for many years, with the 6 a.m., one-minute thought for the day broadcast. He continued his ministry through much of his retirement years as a speaker and teacher in many of the local churches.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel, 91, who has faithfully cared for him during the years when the CMT disease severely limited his ability to walk. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Smith, of Pennsylvania. Rev. Brohm was the father of five children, 13 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the many friends of the local church family, the neighbors on Friendly Road, and the caring workers from the Community Home Care and Hospice organization.
