Rev. Melodie Dawn Parnell, 46, of Otway, entered into her Eternal Home on Friday, June 29, 2018 at her home.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00, Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Glad Tidings Church, officiated by Senior Pastor Tim Marriner and Rev. William O'Neal.  Interment will follow at the Gillikin Family Cemetery in Otway.

Melodie was born in Morehead City on March 04, 1972. She was a graduate of East Carteret High School Class of 1990, Carteret Community College with an Associate Degree in Microcomputer Systems in 1997. She later went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Mount Olive in Management of Information systems in 2008. She obtained her Local  Minister Licenses from the School of Ministry in Falcon, NC in May of 2014. She was employed by the Division of Marine Fisheries as an Applications Technician, in the department of Information Technology from 1997 until her passing.   She was a Licensed Local Church Minister, where she was a member of Smyrna Pentecostal Holiness Church, she served as Youth Leader/Pastor, and Music Director for over approximately 10 years . She then felt the Lord calling her to reach out further in her walk, so she embarked on a new journey and became a member and Music Pastor at Saint Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church, in Greenville, NC, from May of 2016 until June of 2017.  Melodie was a faithful servant of The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, where she was currently adhering to her call, at Glad Tidings Church and became a member in 2017 up until her passing. Melodie was boldly known for her love of The Lord and her talents, which was her beautiful voice, and her love of playing the piano. She also sang with the trio Tender Mercy, and The Wilmington Celebration Choir. The calling that was placed on her life was to work with the youth. She poured her heart and soul into her "babies".

She is survived by her mother, Audrey Faye Parnell of the home; sister, Jodie Parnell Willis and husband, John, of Otway, Brothers, James Calhoun Parnell III and wife, Doris Ann, of Otway, Kery Wayne Parnell and wife, Lynne, of Williston; Nieces, Jennifer Marie Willis, Sheila Lupton; Nephews, John C Willis, Jr., Jason Dudley; Great Niece, Emmalyn Kate Willis; Great Nephews, Aaron Lupton, Ashton Lupton; Special Cousin, Bobbie Lynn Gillikin, along with many other cousins.

She was proceeded in death by her father, James Calhoun Parnell, Jr; and many Aunts and Uncles.

Family will receive friends from  5:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, July 2, 2018 at Glad Tidings Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Anchored Deep Youth Group of Smyrna PHC at 85 Highway 70 East,  Smyrna, NC 28579 or H2O Student Ministry of Glad Tidings Church at 4621 Country Club Rd, Morehead City, NC 28579.
