On Friday, April 26, 2019, Rev Charles E Smith loving husband and father of 4 children and grandfather went home to be with Jesus at the age of 75.
His visitation will be Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Munden Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at 12:00pm at Munden Funeral home in Morehead City. Officiating will be Rev Todd White and Rev Kevin Page. Graveside service will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Rev Smith was born on November 20, 1943 in Jackson Tennessee to Clayborn and Era Smith. After graduation from Jackson High School he moved to Huntsville, Alabama where he worked for Boeing. He was drafted at that time and honorably served in the United States Army in Germany where he met his wife Karin. After moving back to the States, Rev Smith moved his family to North Carolina in 1974. In 1976 he assumed Pastorship of the United Pentecostal Church of Morehead City until retirement in 2018. He spent many years ministering behind a pulpit but he cherished those moments of spending time with people in their homes praying and talking about the Lord. He never met a stranger and you can be sure that at the end of his conversation he would be inviting you out to church. He was a servant of God.
Many in Carteret County would know him as Rev Smith and then others would affectionally know him as Pe-Pa due to his wife’s previous years of having a home daycare. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family. He loved to laugh and was always a positive person.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karin Smith of the home; sons, Michael Schraml of Germany, Marcus and wife Jeannette of Havelock, Andrew Smith of Newport; daughter Kirsten White and husband Todd of Beaufort; brothers, Joe Smith and wife Gracie of Jackson, TN, Bobby and Ann Smith of Jackson TN; sister, Linda Page of Gallatin, TN; and grandchildren, Emilie Filipek and husband Michael of New Jersey, Brandon Smith and girlfriend Kristian Morris of Newport, and Jordan Powell of Havelock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayborn and Era Smith; sister, Patsy; and brother, Leon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Hope Mission of Morehead City or flowers are welcomed.
