Reta Gleen (Swinson) Cannon

November 13, 1923 — July 23, 2012

Reta Swinson Cannon, 88, of Newport, died Monday July 23, 2012 at Croatan Ridge Nursing Facility.

A funeral will be held 11:00 am Thursday at Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Conner officiating. Interment to at Canady Family Cemetery.

Ms. Reta was the oldest member of Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church.

She is survived by  two daughters Peggy Clark and husband Col. Hal of Newport, NC and Sheryl Wynne and husband David of Havelock, NC: brother Linwood Swinson and wife Jean of Morehead City, NC: four sisters Irma Oliver of Hayes. VA, Colleen Ferree of Newport News, VA, Norma Midgett  of Morehead City, NC, and Melva Pollard of Greenville, NC:two grandsons Gregory Clark and wife Cary of Lexington, SC, and Jeffrey Clark and wife Melissa of Mocksville, NC: six great grandchildren Emily Grace Clark,Madeline Nicole Clark, Jackson William Clark, Eleanor Maxwell Clark, Harris William Clark, and Thomas Cannon Clark: numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Allen Harding Cannon and her parents Doc and Lillie Swinson.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church 850 Nine Foot Rd. Newport, NC 28570.
