Reginald Franklin Lewis

Reginald Franklin Lewis, 89, of Newport and Havelock, died Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.
The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Novemeber 18, at St. James United Methodist Church w/Rev. Eric Lindblade officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Newport.
He was born December 7, 1920 in Morehead City to Laurie Gibbs Lewis (Tobe) and Lizette Garner Lewis.
Mr. Lewis served in the US Navy for 20 years spending time in the South Pacific during the Battle of the Phillipines and various other bases up and down the east coast: Annapolis, Charleston, Puerto Rico before retiring in 1959. He then served another 25 years w/the NC Division of Marine Fisheries here in Morehead City patrolling the waters of Craven, Pamlico and Carteret counties. He frequently remarked on how much he enjoyed working with the fishermen and how appreciative he was of all their hard work. He was active in the Moose organization for many years in Newport and also served as past president. He was also instrumental in getting the Newport Consolidated School Alumni organization up and running. He and his wife Joyce have been members of St. James Methodist Church in Newport since 1964 where he served on various committees throughout the years.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mildred Joyce Garner Lewis, of Havelock, sister Esther L. Gardner and husband Don, of Birmingham, AL; daughter Kathryn L. Kirwan and husband Steve of Morehead City; son Thomas L. Lewis and wife Sonya of Newport and son Robert S. Lewis of Havelock. Also grandsons Scott Wisneski of Houston, TX; Jonathon Lewis of Atlantic Beach, Michael Kirwan of Morehead City, Joshua Lewis of Newport NC and step-grandson, Eric Kirwan of Ft. Worth, TX and one granddaughter Molly Beth Lewis of Newport, NC. Two great-grandsons, one great granddauther and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by both parents and son, Reginald F. Lewis, Jr.
