Rebecca "Becky" Cardwell Moore

August 17, 1935 — December 5, 2018

Pine Knoll Shores

Rebecca “Becky” Cardwell Moore, 83, of Pine Knoll Shores, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Carteret Health Care.

Becky was born on August 17, 1935, in Martinsville, VA, daughter of Mollie Pratt Cardwell and Thomas Cardwell. She was the youngest of ten children and the last to survive. She attended Martinsville High School and Lynchburg College in Virginia.

Becky married Larry Moore, the love of her life, in Martinsville, VA. They were married for 57 years until he passed away in 2011. Becky and Larry started their married life in Richmond, VA, and after his graduation from the University of Richmond and the birth of the first of their four daughters, they moved to Harrisonburg, VA, where Larry began a long career with the Jewel Box Stores corporation.  In Harrisonburg, their second and third daughters were born, and they met life-long friends Win and Lin Johnson.  As Larry rose through the ranks, they moved next to Winchester, VA, and then to Greensboro, NC, where their fourth daughter was born, and they met life-long friends Bill and Sally Colbert.

Seeking a change in pace, Larry and Becky moved north, to Attleboro, MA, where they eventually started their own company, Concept Marketing, one of the first to market ear piercing equipment and to manufacture allergy-free earrings. After growing tired of the cold New England winters, they moved their family to Pine Knoll Shores, NC, and relocated the company to Morehead City, NC.

Becky was a member and long-time volunteer at the First Presbyterian Church in Morehead City, NC, where she made many dear friends. She delivered Meals on Wheels as a volunteer to the elderly, and was active at the Garden Club, Bogue Banks Country Club, the Morehead City Yacht Club and Coterie.

Becky’s cornflower blue eyes and warm smile will be greatly missed, as will her spirited demeanor. She was at once gentle and strong-willed. She had a talent for art and photography, which she enjoyed. Becky was graced with being a good listener, as many whose lives she touched can attest, and was always there when you needed her. She had little tolerance for the words “I can’t,” and was quick with praise for trying to do your best. Becky taught her daughters and grandchildren that they could be anything they wanted to be, do anything they wanted to do, and she supported their every twist and turn.

Becky is survived by daughters Melissa “Lisa” Thompson and her husband Michael, Terry Turner and her husband Jacob, Laurie Smith and her husband Vance, and Virginia “Ginny” Moore Milner; grandchildren, Alysha Thompson and her partner Benjamin Algeroy, David Thompson and his wife Susan Corso, Greg Turner and his wife Ruth, Ryan Turner and his wife Mia, Lilly Griffith, Eli Griffith, and Arca Milner; great granddaughter, Vera Turner; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family is planning a Memorial Service to be held after the New Year.
