Reba (Parsons) Phibbs

December 27, 1925 — March 29, 2013

Reba Parson Phibbs, 87, of Morehead City, died Friday , March 29, 2013 at Carteret General Hospital. Born Reba Elizabeth Parson in Hopewell, Virginia on December 27, 1925 to Leonard and Darah Salter Parson, she grew up in the vicinity of Oriental and Arapahoe, NC.

After graduation from Arapahoe High School, Reba became a civil service employee at Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Base In 1942 and worked as a telephone switchboard operator for eleven years advancing to supervisory status.

Reba was married to Robert R. Mazzucco in 1949.

Reba attended Hartbarger School of Business, and upon graduation returned to work as a civil servant at Cherry Point in Navy Supply, and finally as a claims adjustment specialist, assisting Marines and their families with shipping, receiving, and compensation for losses and damages associated with personal belongings and household goods.

Reba married Ralph S. Phibbs in 1972 and lived with him in High Point, NC until his death in 1982. They were members of First United Methodist Church in High Point and Reba served many years on The Parson's Table.

Reba returned to Morehead City in 2004 as a full time resident and became a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church.

She was active in her community and served as a volunteer for The Community Advisory Committee in Carteret County, visiting residents of area rest homes and then advocating for their needs. Policy changes to enhance and improve the conditions of those residents occured as a result of that advocacy.

Throughout her life, Reba was appreciated and loved as a trustworthy friend, as a loving, caring, dependable, and reliably supportive daughter and sister to her siblings, as abiding mother to her daughter, proud grandmother, and as the "Sweet" member and participant in her church congregations.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Michelle Mazzucco and spouse Teresa Hill in Asheville, and Jenny Phibbs Loftin and husband Jay of Raleigh: four grandchildren, Carrie Rose Schulz, David Isaac Schulz, Adam Loftin, and Jane Quinn Sizemore and husband Chris: great-granddaughter, Lacy June Sizemore : three sisters, Chris Holland and husband Doug of Morrisville, Ida Gaskill and husband Edfred of Morehead City, and JoAnne Lewis and husband George Kuhhorn of Morehead City; two brothers, James Parsons and wife Vickie of Havelock, and William Bryan Parsons and wife Jeannie of Chapel Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Darah Salter Parson, husband Ralph Steven Phibbs, son Michael Mazzucco, stepson Steven Phibbs, brother Preston Parsons, and sister Virginia Embree.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday April 6, 2013 at St. Peters United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 111 Hodges St, Morehead City, NC 28557.
