Raymond "Ray" E. Jones, Sr.

Raymond “Ray” Jones, Sr., 79, of Newport, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2019.

A Graveside Inurnment for Ray and his wife Ann Garner Jones will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Susan Lindblade, with military honors.

Ray grew up in Morehead City and graduated from John Motley Morehead High School Class of 1958. He honorably served the U.S. Army and then worked for almost 30 years with FRC East as an NDI Inspector. He was an avid motorcyclist and remote control enthusiast, and also a member of the Single Action Shooting Society. He was loving and generous despite his gruff outside.

He is survived by sons, Ray Jones, Jr. of Newport, Perry Jones of Williston, FL, Jody Jones of Newport, Shawn Jones and wife Melody of Cape Carteret; daughter, Lila Johnson of Newport; brothers, John Gillikin, Jr. and Gary Gillikin; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Garner Jones; and his parents, John Gillikin and Annie Gillikin.

Ray’s family would like to thank 3HC Home Health & Hospice, especially Cindy and Crystal for the excellent care given to Ray in his time of need.
