Rachel was born on July 1, 1939, in Beaufort, North Carolina, to the late William and Ethel Tyler. She was loved by the families in her community of Harkers Island where she worked in the Elementary School for nearly three decades and was a faithful, longtime, member of Harkers Island United Methodist Church.
Reading was one of Rachel’s favorite pastimes which provided her with vast knowledge in a variety of subjects. The Bible was her solid foundation which she knew inside and out and more importantly applied to her daily life. Rachel was active in her church. She taught Sunday School for many years, helped with the women’s group, and helped with many church dinners. Rachel loved her family dearly and was a natural caregiver to all. Shopping was another activity she enjoyed, she especially delighted in being able to take her grandchildren shopping for Christmas and birthdays.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheri Lowe and husband Glenn of Smyrna and Angela Scott and husband Andy of Harkers Island; sisters, Kathleen “Kitty” Bolding of Meadville, PA and Ellen McDonald and husband Kelvin of Jonesborough, GA; brothers, Robert Tyler and wife Sandy of Grand Valley, PA and Charles Tyler and wife Candi of Smyrna; grandchildren, Jessica Wortham and husband Eric of Straits, Lindsey Fodrie of Smyrna, Paige Willis of Smyrna, Tara Scott and fiancé Chris Dyer of Harkers Island and Kenneth Scott of Harkers Island; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Nicholas, Savannah, Rafe, Gage, Luke, Emily and Everleigh; and great-great-grandchild, Brinley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Frank S. Moore and great grandchild, Sydney Grace.
