Preston Allen Mann

Preston Allen Mann, 90, of Newport, passed away Monday, February 26, 2018 at his home.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the White Oak Church of God in Bogue, officiated by Reverend Richard Franklin, Reverend Dwayne Dickerson and Reverend Danny Shortridge. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Preston was born on March 5, 1927 in Newport and lived on Tom Mann Road. When his father, Romie Mann, died in 1937 his mother, Eva Mann (Taylor), of Gales Creek, NC, married Glenn Adams of Broad Creek, NC. They moved to Broad Creek around 1943 and lived in a little house across from Broad Creek Church of God.

Preston was drafted into the United States Army in May of 1946 through August of 1946 and reenlisted until December of 1949.  He worked as a truck mechanic in an ordinance company in Ieta Jima, Japan, to which he was stationed 3 years.  He received a World War II victory medal and Army of Occupation Medal during his time in Japan.

Upon returning home, he worked as a painter, carpenter, block layer, etc.  He retired as a maintenance mechanic for Civil Service. He met Gloria Mann of Broad Creek and married her in 1951 at the Broad Creek Church of God where they attended. They lived in Broad Creek where they raised their family. Preston was a charter member of White Oak Church of God for 40 years where he faithfully attended. Preston and Gloria were hard workers, they loved their family and were devoted Christians.

He is survived by his daughter, Twila Bryant and her husband, Greg, of Gastonia, NC; son, Rex Allen Mann and his wife, Sheila, of Broad Creek; sister, Clarissa Cannon of Newport; grandchildren, Gary Allen Mann and his wife, Tabatha, of Ocean, NC, Stacy Lamb and her husband, Matt Lamb, of Atlantic Beach, NC, Jeff Bryant and his wife, Nicole, of Gastonia, NC; great-grandchildren, Sydney Mann and Sophia Mann both of Ocean, NC, Savannah Lamb and Scarlett Lamb, both of Atlantic Beach, NC.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Mann; father, Romie Mann; mother, Eva Taylor Mann Adams; step-father, Glenn Adams; brothers, Larose Mann and Marlon Adams

Family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the White Oak Church of God in Bogue.
