Polly Frances Sue Snow James, 86, of Newport and formerly of Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Carteret Health Care.

A memorial service at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Airy will be held at a later date.

Polly was born on September 13, 1936, in Surry County, North Carolina, to the late Richard Austin Snow and Emma Haynes Snow. After growing up in Surry County and graduating from Beulah High School, she attended Guilford College. She later moved to Winston-Salem, Asheville, and Charlotte where she thrived in her role as a loving and busy stay-at-home mom.

Polly had a sweet and genuine spirit. In a final letter to her family she had written simply “I love you all.”

She is survived by her daughter, Judith James Keane of McClellanville, SC; son, Gregory V. James and wife Susan of Wilmington; sister, Peggy Snow Tilley of Richmond, VA; brother, Dr. Jack Snow of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Joshua James (Becky) of Fayetteville, Sarah James Baker (Adam) of Wilmington, Zachary James (Cherylanne) of Wilmington, Benjamin Keane, Joseph Keane, Ethan Keane, and Caleb Keane, all of Charleston, SC; and great-grandchildren, Oliver James and Harrison James. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her half-sister, Gertrude Jones Long; half-brother, Wallace Jones; sisters-in-law, June Snow and Ella Jones; and brothers-in-law, Mike Tilley and McAdoo Long.
