Phyllis Boyd, 70, of Newport, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 at Carteret Health Care.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2020, at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Newport, officiated by Pat Gorman. In keeping with the CDC guidelines pertaining to the Coronavirus, those who are ill or at-risk (elderly, immune-compromised) are encouraged to stay home. Born in Jacksonville, NC, she was the daughter of Harold and Ruth Padgett. She graduated from Tabor City High School. She worked in the plant industry most of her life and ended up retiring from J&S Nursery.
She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed her daily phone calls with her family and friends, playing bingo, and watching her favorite tv shows. She will be remembered for her heart of gold, her knowledge of plants, and those famous "Phyllis Boyd" looks she passed down to both of her granddaughters.
She is survived by her sister, Tanis Chalk and fiancé Don Willis of Morehead City; her three sons, Jamie Boyd, Chris Boyd, and Richie Boyd, all of Newport; sister-in-law, Jean Brouillard of Newport; daughters-in law, Lisa Boyd, Vancy Boyd and Stacy Worley all of Newport; granddaughter, Samantha Boyd and fiancé Aaron Clark of Newport; granddaughter, Kyndel Boyd of Newport; nephew, Jeremy Chalk of Morehead City; and many lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Boyd, and her parents Harold and Ruth Padgett.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Munden Funeral Home. There will be a limit to the number of people in the building at one time, as well, those who attend will be asked to bring and wear a protective mask. Upon entering, guests will be asked health questions and their temperatures will be taken.
