Phillip G. Smith

Phillip G. Smith, 65, of Newport, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 4th at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Newport.

Phillip was born on September 13, 1957, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Cecil and Geraldine Smith. He had a long and successful career as a longshoreman with the North Carolina State Port Authority and was a longtime member of the International Longshoremen's Association.

Phillip had a keen appreciation for gun collecting, enjoying a variety of firearms with their historical, artistic, and technical value. He also had a great passion for car racing, enjoying the adrenaline rush of a fast race.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sister, Judy Smith of Newport; nephew, Michael Smith of Newport; niece, Krystal Plisko and husband Charles of Newport, NC; grandnephew, Aden Smtih; and special friend, Robin Kofahl of Mill Creek.

In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Gordon Smith.
