Phillip Shirley Jr.

Phillip Shirley Jr., 71, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Croatan Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, February 23rd at Munden Funeral Home.

Phillip was born on April 18, 1952, in Wilson, North Carolina. He was known for his exceptional skills as a welder, with a focus on high-rise construction projects. A true craftsman, he also found joy in creating beautiful works of art from wood. He had a passion for bass fishing, always ready for the next big catch. And nothing was more enjoyable for him than spending time at the beach. 

Phillip will be remembered as a loving father, and proud grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his son, Phillip Brandon Shirley of Newport, NC; and daughters, Tonya Shirley of Tennessee, Jamie Boe and Sarah Metters, both of North Carolina, and Angie of Virginia; grandchildren, Fischer Shirley, Brantley Shirley, Mystical, Chuck David, Davie, and Kayla; as well as great-grandchildren.

Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Shirley Sr. and his faithful dog, Duke.
