Phillip Richard Peoples died at home in Cape Carteret, NC August 16, 2016.

He was born in January 1933 in Columbus, Ohio to Walter and Grace Peoples; he was the younger brother of Virginia Peoples McCullen.  Following his graduation from Muskegon (MI) High in 1950, he entered the Navy, where he earned his Dolphins and became a submarine sonar technician aboard the USS Clamagore.

He settled in Bedford, NY following his marriage to Janet Marschke in 1954; they had three children, Barbara, Bob, and Margie.  The family relocated to Greenville, NC with Burroughs Welcome (BW) in 1970.  Following his retirement from BW, Phil and Jan traveled for serveral years; visiting all fifty states and several countries.  They settled into retirement in Cape Carteret, NC and in a cabin on the Blue Ridge Parkway near West Jefferson, NC.  They were married fifty eight years when Jan passed away in 2012.  Phil was happy to have found love again, marrying Grace Stafford in March 2015.

Phil is survived by his wife, Grace Peoples, three children: Barbara Peoples (Sturgis Payne) of Durham, Bob Peoples (Carol Peoples) of Greenville, and Margie Peoples (Lindsay Henry) of Wilmington, three step-children: Bill Rogers, Charles Rogers (Donna Rogers), and Pam Rogers, all of Greenville, four grandchildren: Isaac Payne, Maggie Payne, Elizabeth Henry, and James Henry, and one step-granddaughter, Ashley Rogers.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews across the country.

If anyone would like to make a donation in Phil’s honor, we asked that they consider the following causes that were close to his heart: White Oak Ecumenical Ministries (P.O. Box 597, Swansboro, NC 28584) or the Carteret General Hospital Foundation, Hospice program or Cancer Center, PO Drawer 1619, Morehead City, NC 28557-9909.
