Phillip Don Horne, 80, Morehead City, North Carolina, went to be with his Lord on January 26, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
The family will have a celebration of his life at a later date.
Phillip was born on May 11, 1944, to the late Ashley Carlton Horne and Lila Cayton Horne. A native of Richlands, North Carolina, Phillip moved with his family to Morehead City at the age of 13. He understood the value of hard work from a young age having contributed to the family tobacco farm on Crab Point. Phillip went on to have a long and fulfilling career in Civil Service at Cherry Point where he worked in the hazardous material department.
At the age of 20, Phillip married his beloved wife, Alice, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years. His life was marked by remarkable creativity and musical talent. Phillip was an extraordinarily crafty individual, expressing himself through his artistry. He was skilled in playing the guitar, banjo, harmonica, and keyboard, always happy to entertain his family and friends with his musical performances.
Phillip enjoyed spending his free time tending to his yard and always enjoyed the peacefulness of the water while casting his fishing line whenever able. His legacy of creativity, love, and hard work will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Alice Horne; daughter, Debra Davenport (Tim) of Atlantic Beach, NC, Rose Vick (David) of Beaufort, NC, Beth Willis of Morehead City, NC, and Polly Sonnier (Joe) of Newport, NC; sisters, Gloria Rhue of Morehead City, NC and Kathleen Whinkler (Manfred) of Austria; brother, Royce Horne (Lillie Ann) of Houston, TX; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by his sisters, Charlotte Issac, Virginia Perkins, Helene Miller, Lillian Walker, and Penny Horne; and brother, Marvin Horne.
