Philip Nimon Willis, Jr., 41, of Beaufort, passed away, Monday, September 23, 2013 at Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.
His graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Victoria Cemetery in Marshallberg with Rev. Jack Mumford officiating with military honors.
Mr. Willis was born in Sea Level and was a graduate of East Carteret High School. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1991 and retired as Chief Petty Officer in 2011. He served his country with pride and courage throughout his career.
He is survived by his wife, Angel and daughter Alyssa of the home; his mother, Deborah Whittington and husband Don of Dunn; his father, Philip Willis, Sr. and wife Peggy of Davis; his sister, Stephanie Hancock and husband Mark and nephew, Preston of Havelock; his maternal grandmother, Vergie Mae Gaskill of Dunn; aunt, Phyllis Hunnings and husband Melvin of Otway; uncles, Bruce Reigel of Raleigh and Gordon Willis and wife Gail of Seven Lakes; step brothers Mark Piner ans wife Nicole of Davis, and Phillip Whittington of Durham; step sister Donna Morton and husband Jim of Wake Forest; mother in-law Judy Levy of Morehead City; sister in-law LeAnn Levy of Morehead City; his lifetime best friend and "brother, Chris Judy of Gloucester; and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Earl Gaskill, paternal grandparents, Fernie and Velma Willis, and aunt, Bonnie Reigel.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 Thursday at Munden Funeral Home.
