Peter "Pete" Vincent MacAvery, 78, of Peletier, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 5, 2024.

Born on May 6, 1946, in Beacon, New York at Highland Hospital, Pete was the son of the late William Vincent MacAvery and Charlotte R. Kirkup MacAvery. After graduating from Beacon High School in 1964, he began work at IBM East Fishkill in 1965. 

As tensions were rising with the Vietnam War, Pete decided to join the U.S. Air Force in September of 1965. His time of service included the Tet Offensive which was a major escalation and one of the largest military campaigns of the war. Pete held the rank of Sergeant upon his honorable discharge in December of 1968.

After almost 30 faithful and dedicated years with IBM, Pete retired in 1994 and moved to North Carolina. He embarked on a new career path, working as the Financial Administrator for the Craven County Health Department. In 1998, Pete married Dianne E. Meeks and they resided in Peletier. 

Throughout his life, Pete was highly dedicated to his community. During his time in New York, he graduated from the Local Law Enforcement and Police Academy. He went on to serve with the Pine Plains and Millerton Police Departments, the Mace Hook and Ladder Fire Department in Beacon, and the Hughsonville Fire Department.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are daughter, Jennifer L. MacAvery Collins of Swansboro, NC; son, Chad Vincent MacAvery of Emerald Isle, NC; sister, Carol A. Coons (Elliott) of Beacon, NY; step-sons, Nicholas J. Meeks (Nicole) of Syracuse, NY, Christopher L. Meeks (Brandi) of Swansboro, NC, and Kevin W. Meeks (Crystal Hendricks) of New Hampshire; and step-grandchildren, Caleb, Connor, Cody, and River Meeks, and Kerah Hubbard.

In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Meeks MacAvery in December of 2023; and his step-son, Anthony Meeks.
